West of Ireland

The West of Ireland (WOI) Estate is owned by South Texas Celtic Music Association (STCMA) via avatar AliciaKay Kilara, who is on the Board of Directors and represent STCMA within Second Life.

WOI consists of 8 sims, three of which are public areas. The public areas are:

West of Ireland island, the original sim in the estate, is the hub of cultural and music activities for the estate. Nancy Blake’s Pub is a popular venue for live music events, DJ’ed dances, and casual gatherings, much as a real life pub is. The West of Ireland Library and Cultural Center hosts storytelling, literary events, changing exhibits, and workshops.  The Celtic Crossing Quay Marketplace and Boardwalk are diverse retail areas, featuring high quality products ranging from fine art to clothes to surfing gear to homes and furniture. The West of Ireland Art Gallery hosts a series of changing exhibits of art, both real world works and those created for the virtual world.

A replica of an actual Irish surf spot on the west coast of Ireland, Bundoran Reef is SL’s first cold water surfing spot with a great Pipeline Wave. Free loaner surfboards are available for use. Bundoran is a great place for all surfers from novice to expert, with virtually no lag. It is also wonderful for a romantic stroll, with numerous cuddles poses to be found at unexpected places.  Other attractions on Bundoran include a Namiko Surf Co. store, a dance circle with fire pit, and recreational gathering areas. No jet skis or other forms of motorized transport are allowed at Bundoran, thus keeping it a true surfing sim.    Surfing lessons are held on Wednesdays at 5pm or by appointment.  IM Bobbi Laval for more information.

Neart Island is both a great surfing area and a venue for cultural events. An EPIC wave provides amazing surfing, while a recreation of Newgrange hosts rotating displays on Irish history, culture, and music. The Neart deck is also the site of events, including Friday night theme dances. Neart Island is an ideal place for all surfers. The small island features the incredible EPIC wave created by Heather Goodliffe.
